Nutrition After Transplant

I would really appreciate any of our group that have had their liver transplant to share the type of diet and nutritional changes you had to make after transplant. Right now I'm not so restricted as it's only been a month since my transplant but I am hearing from my coordinator that there are changes coming. I never have been much of a vegetable person so that really has me worried. Please share your story of how you adjusted to a new diet if indeed you did have to make changes. Any and all thoughts along this vein would be most appreciated. I truly want to take care of this new gift of life and make it last for many many years. I don't want to do something with the way I'm eating to harm it, but at the same time I don't want to go overboard and feel like I'm trapped in a prison having to eat just certain types of foods. I am not a diabetic, my sugar and weight are currently under control despite all the Prednisone I'm on. Any help along these lines is most appreciated.

You will never regret eating well. It's not a prison to plan meals and make sure they are optimal. For me, it's a prison to eat badly, or at the wrong times, as can happen when you are out and have to eat with others or in others homes. Many people are nutritionally impaired.

Dietitians even tell overweight people that's it's okay to cheat once in a while. Whatever for? Longing for bad food is what got them overweight in the first place. Better to treat yourself in other ways, such as a nice movie from the library.

Thanks Lara. I can always count on you to tell it like it is :-)

I'll try harder with this nutrition regimen.
