hello all. The past few days my hubby (UC, PSC {15yrs+}) has had some symptoms that remind me of his last attack. Of course, I am also the symptom police so I am not sure if I am making connections that do not exist.
Tuesday/Wednesday he had pressure in his chest that felt a bit like indigestion but not exactly (he was clearly uncomfortable and usually I cannot tell when he is in pain). That seemed to subside over the next 24 hours and Thursday his right shoulder began hurting…hurts to move it even (he works out so we typically dismiss these types of pains)…and last night he woke up with such severe night sweats that he soaked the bed. Last time he had an attack it started with the chest pressure/indigestion feeling but quickly escalated. He has also lost over 10-15 lbs in the past 2 months.
The things I described above are very much not the norm for him which is why they are standing out to me.
Please share your thoughts with me. I know we are not doctors but I value your feedback.
Cholangitis can cause referred pain into right shoulder. Happened to me when I was hospitalized for a very bad R-sided cholangitis, shoulder pain was extremely intense. I would get him checked out, especially with night sweats and weight loss. No fever?
As you already suspect, it's probably not a coincidence. I'd get on the line with his doctor and explain how the current symptoms are mirroring the symptoms of his last attack. Ask for oral antibiotics (such as Cipro) to try to nip this before it escalates.
Has he ever been checked for gallstones? They can cause extreme pain in the chest, back/arm area. It is different for many folks. There is usually weight loss associated with it. Of course, those are the same type of symptoms of a cholangitis attact. It would be a good idea for him to get a thorough check with his doctor.. I am sending positive thoughts to you and your husband on this.
