As a runner, this is a wonderful story, albeit scary at times,
The hill mentioned at towards the end of story is called Cardiac Hill, and it's about 3.5 miles into the race. It is a pretty long hill, and with Piedmont Hospital at the top( they have an excellent cardiac faciltiy), the nickname of Cardiac Hill is well deserved.
The year after my colectomy, I ran this race and as I was nearing the top with Piedomont on the horizon, I got choked up with a ton of emotion. From July 2006 to June 2007, I had spent 28 days at Piedmont (5 stays).
So I loved this article. A great motivator.
