Peter Peter Nickel Eater

My name is Jesse Brooks. I am 27 years old and I have Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis and as a result of which I also have Cirrhosis of the Liver. I was diagnosed September 2006 and was just accepted into the MUSC transplant program pending my MELD score reaching at least 15. Currently it fluctuates between 9 and 13. I was previously diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis September 2000 and struggled with it greatly all through high school. I barely avoided having my colon removed and towards the end of the second semester of my freshman year at college in 2003 the UC had diminished into almost full remission. It is still technically active, but I barely even notice it most of the time. I have met great success controlling it with Pentasa. I take Ursodiol for my PSC and it certainly helps, but as you all know it is just a matter of swimming upstream and the PSC is taking its toll on my body. It is only a matter of time until I’ll be in need of a liver transplant.

Other than the relatively under control UC and the gradually worsening Cirrhosis I am healthy. I am pleased to meet all of you.

Jesse - welcome and thanks for sharing.

I'm sorry to hear about what you've been going through. Keep us posted. Personally, my MELD score is still really low (I'm still pre-cirrhotic) but I find it invaluable to hear from folks like you. Helps me keep things in perspective.

Just wondering - how did you find out about the PSC?
