Ox Bile/ Bile Salts Supplement

Ox Bile is a supplement that is recommended to aid in the digestion of fats....especially for people who have had their gall bladder (bile reservoir) removed. fat and fat soluble vitamins are important to our health

I have heard about this supplement for years but don't know anyone with experience using it. Considering the potentially insufficient bile levels in PSC patients, I thought I would bring it up. Anyone here experiment with this?

I have this supplement , was taking a few months ago, I started itchy really bad, so I figured this was causing it.. not sure? I will ask my GI doctor should I take the supplement before I eat. I know when I took it I could eat food w/o any problems , no indigestion , bloating or rumbling..

Everything has it's side effects. Always use caution when trying anything like this. Always do ONE THING at a time so you know if there is a reaction what caused it. There CAN BE an allergic reaction. I think the itching is caused by retained bile depositing in the skin. ALWAYS look up ... _____for example OX BILE and type side effects. And, ask your doctors.

I'm currently making Ox Bile Tincture. I am getting ready to give it a try myself. Great enzyme I'M HOPING.

Hi Crixus

All these herbs and supplements really need to be tried with caution. Actually, don't try anything until you have fully researched it for your body and medications. They can be harmful. I have access to an MD/Biochemist.

I use vodka. I fill the jar 1/2 full with the best/organically grown/cleanest herbs I can buy/trust and fill the jar with Vodka. I wish I had organic Everclear [LOL-homemade] but Vodka will do. I've done a lot of research [and then more research]. I know it sounds WEIRD to make tinctures BECAUSE THEY ARE ALCOHOL and alcohol is so bad for us. In reality, the alcohol delivers the herb STRAIGHT to the liver for processing. I leave my jars alone in a dark spot [but gently shake them every other day] for about 6-8 weeks. Then I strain. I mix some of my herbs also. My doctors OFF THE RECORD are very impressed with my efforts and progress.

Again though...these herbs CAN be dangerous. And, what works and is good for one of us may not be for the other.

Mona

I am curious what exactly you are making. Are you somehow extracting bile salts from a bovine liver/gallbladder? What exactly are the herbs for? Ox bile/bile salts are used as a replacement if the body does not have enough of it's own bile.

Hi Bubba

I take several enzymes. I get in trouble and put in the hospital when I have undigested food. Also, when I DIDN'T pay attention and kept adding food to it. Bile is definitely a problem for us. Most of the pharmaceuticals doctors recommend for us are for bile.

I am merely in the research mode of Ox Bile. Ox Bile is certainly nothing to mess with/without talking to doctors and doing extensive research.

I have stage four liver cancer and my bile ducts are blocked by two tumors. I am presently on my tenth chemotherapy treatment having began in June of this year. In May I was told that unless my bilirubin count came down, it was 27 and is suppose to be 1 or below, I had only two weeks to live. After five liver procedures I now carry a bag that collects all the bile my liver produces which makes it very hard to digest certain foods. My oncologist told me to see if I could find something to take that would help my digestion process. I have been taking Ox Bile three times a day for two weeks and I notice a greater digestion of my food, and I am beginning to gain some of my weight back due to longer processing of the food.
I highly recomment Ox Bile for anyone with this or similar needs.
Thanks,
Chris

I am merely staying on top of the research for myself. I am not an expert on these herbs. Nor do I recommend them.

Mona

Thank you for more info on ox bile. It is definitely interesting for the PSC patient. I am curious though what you are making with vodka and herbs?

Hay Bubba...I see this was your thread in the first place.

Read-up about herbs, etc.

http://www.healthherbs.com/conditions/about-tinctures.html

http://www.bulkherbstore.com/search?mv_session_id=rkredx87&mp=s&se=liver&x=0&y=0

It is a very interesting topic. Always research and get advice from your doctor. NO ONE can recommend herbs because we are all so different and taking different medications. There are reactions with simple foods we eat...much more, herbal remedies cause reactions. My doctors at Loma Linda recommend Milk Thistle, Vitamin D, folic acid and the such... They tell me: OK, give it a try or they say NO and have a good reason. Always talk to your doctor.

Mona

So was your "Ox Bile Tincture" supposed to mimic the effects of ox bile? Or is it supposed to help the body produce and release enough of it's own bile to allow the the proper digestion and absorption of fat and fat soluble vitamins?

LOL I think you answered your own question. I haven't tried it. I'm hoping for your later answer. It takes 4-8 weeks to prepare a tincture.

ox bile aids in the digestion of fats but it does not stimulate the liver to produce more bile. i had 2 distinct questions as i am kinda very curious about this for my own edification.

Thanks for that Info , I just took some ox bile supplement before I ate my big dinner. I seriously want to gain some of my weight back. I not understanding why my food not digesting & really would like to know if my body is getting its nourishment when I eat... I've lost close to 30lbs in the last 8 months, which has depressed me so much, I am obsessed w/ gaining weight back but seem like that a huge order to ask.. I am going to check with my GI doctor tomorrow to make sure if its ok for me to take the supplement.
