All…my husband just got home from a business trip and was ok until this morning (was in CA). Now has a rash on the undersides of his wrists (completely red) and scattered on his legs. He is itchy and says he does not feel well. Also mentioned his eyes were bothering him. He is taking some benedryl and laying down. Has been VERY tired the past 24 hrs…fell asleep in the car on the way home from breakfast (unusual). Do these symptoms sound PSC related? I am wondering if I should call his doc. With PSC I never know.
The itching (pruritus) relating to PSC doesn’t usually present with a rash - sounds like he needs to get it checked out- may be a reaction to medication?
I have had PSC for 12 years. For many of those years I had rashes and itching that nearly drove me crazy. I found a way to stop it all but before I say anything note that I am not a medical doctor and you need to follow their advice not mine. I will just tell you my experience. I found that all the rashes, itchiness, and even a huge part of the fatigue could be eliminated by changing how I eat. The culprit was FAT. I now eat a very low fat diet and I found that eating a lot of berries (blueberries, raspberries, and black berries) made a huge difference. I also eat nuts and as many vegetables as I can take as I am not a vegetable person. The rest of my diet consists of grilled chicken (white meat), scrambled eggs (2 a day) and low calorie fiber brownies that help get rid of the sweet urges. I also force myself to exercise even if I am tired. I have been on this diet for 5 years and within 60 days of starting it the itching, rashes, and most of the fatigue was gone. Again this might be just me but all I can say is it worked for me and I am not going back. The side effect was that for the first time my liver enzymes got better, and scarring seemed to slow down.
Kerry,
My son had a rash with itching. It covered his feet @ part of his lower legs. He also was very fatigued & vomitted a lot. I would take him in & have blood work done.

I agree with you on this. I actually started a nutritional balancing program which includes these as well as other therapies such as infrared sauna and supplements designed for me based on my hair analysis and I also have been doing vegetable juicing and my numbers have all been normal for the last three tests. I also keep a low fat diet and eat all organic foods to include my meat and I will not go back either

Absolutly take him to the doctor and be prepared to fight. Since the change in health care laws doctors are not as eager to order a colonoscopy because they don't get paid for it. My son was recently diagosed with both PSC and UC and since I had it I was very insistant that he be tested and a colonoscopy be done. I had to go two doctors to get one to refer me to a Gastroenterologist and he did not want to do a colonoscopy because he said my son was too young (19). I got very upset and insisted. Thank God I did. two months later he had most of his large intestine removed because of displacia and severe UC. So take him and be prepared to fight. Maybe you will get a doctor that does not behave that way but be prepared just in case.

When in doubt, check it out.
Sorry, could not resist, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
Call his doctor and report it. It may be a sign of something significant. Better to err on the side of caution. It could be a mild reaction to a medicine. I was on 23 meds before my transplant, and things like rashes did occur. They would change medicines.
Hi there…sometimes you can become very itchy when the bile acids start to get into your blood stream. Then you become very itchy and that’s when I notice the rashes, scabs and bruises purely from the scratching.I have been put on a powder that you add to a drink and this helps to bind the bile acid into the stomach. The drug is called Colestid and it doesn’t have any nasty side effects and you can just take it when you become itchy. The tiredness, in my experience comes down to diet.our livers just can’t process high fatty foods, like diary. You may find that if your husband gets his LFT done he may find his bilirubin figures higher than usual.Hope this helps a little.
Thanks for the advice everyone. His rash now covers the majority of his body…below the neck. Two trips to urgent care said hives. He is not itchy or uncomfortable in any way. Started him on Prednisone and we will give it a few days. Still trying to reach his primary doctor…which is a constant battle. Kerry
I have been getting the rash constantly. I was told it could possibly be a bacterial infection. People with PSC can obtain infections easily. I am just struggling everyday with it. I hope you both the best.
Well, the Prednisone killed the rash… And one day after finishing the script it has come back. What the hell is going on??? Calling his liver doc today…likelihood of getting a call back is very slim. Kerry
It's not likely, but there have been a few cases of PSC and lupus together. There are so many causes of rashes, and different causes present similarly.
Prednisone done and rash back. That finally got our docs attention. Finally scheduling the liver biopsy and getting new labs. My poor hubby is so uncomfortable.
You can use the search box at the upper right corner to check for "rash" or "rashes" in past discussions. You might pick up a few insights that way, FB.
