Could you please post your vanco dose?

Haha yeah, you gotta do what you gotta do. Your life is after all invaluable!

Thanks a lot! I have no insurance so this is a big saving for me. Now I donā€™t have to live paycheck to paycheck anymore!

This is why I wasnt so crazy about USA having universal health care. Drugs like oral vanco wouldnt be covered since they arent FDA approved for PSC. I also am shocked you were able to fly into America with the restrictions. I guess where thereā€™s a will, thereā€™s a way!!

I totally agree! This is a side note, but the way it works in Sweden is that every doctorā€™s office gets a set amount of money per year (dependent on the number of patients and the types of diseases). This money is supposed to cover all the salaries, equipment, fixed costs AND medications. This means that if the office prescribes a lot of (or expensive) medication, they wonā€™t have as much money left for salaries. Therefore, the incentive the doctors have is to NOT prescribe medication. This might seem totally crazy, but thatā€™s how it actually works.

This kind of public health care system requires you to know what medication you need before you see the doctor since they often wont mention any treatments unless you push them. If your medication (such as vanco) isnā€™t FDA approved, youā€™re out of luckā€¦

Wow, thanks for explaining that. I find that fascinating! Huge congrats though for finding a work around and getting the meds you need!

We have universal health care in our country. Itā€™s great that everyone has access to care they need, regardless of if they are employed or their level of socioeconomic status. Iā€™m sure it matters how itā€™s implemented though, so may not be so successful in all countries.

While Vanco for PSC is off-label use (and our doctors had to show itā€™s benefits with a trial for our son and have it approved by the hospital committee) he is now covered ā€œindefinitelyā€.
