Here’s an article of interest regarding a new study giving hope of a treatment for PBC.

> Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) is an autoimmune disease where the small bile ducts of the liver become inflamed. The disease often goes undetected, leading to cirrhosis of the liver, liver failure, and possibly death. But a recent report suggests...

There was a phase 2 trial with PSC patients: [A randomized, placebo-controlled, phase II study of obeticholic acid for primary sclerosing cholangitis](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8157171/). I don’t see any follow up studies. Results from this trial found significant decrease in ALP with the high-dose OCA group vs. placebo; however, as dosage increased, so did pruritus.

Studies have found that PSC patients have significantly improved outcomes when their ALP is within a near-normal range (typically 1-1.5xULN). Relative improvements outside of this near-normal range do not appear to affect outcome. This OCA study unfortunately lacks an analysis of patient near normalization.

I was asked to participate in a clinical trial involving OCA and chose not to.
