Levaqin & Cipro

Are there other antibiotics to treat cholongitis other than Levaqin & Cipro?

Hi Seuss_Phillips_Mom,
Sorry your son is having problems with cholongitis. According to an article I found at NIH here is a list of antibiotics used to treat it. I can’t vouch for any of them other than Cipro and Levaquin of which I have had both. Be careful with Levaquin though. It can cause one to pull the Achilles tendon, which is painful. That happened with me.

The most effective antibiotics for cholangitis patients have been noted as imipenem-cilastatin, meropenem, amikacin, cefepime, ceftriaxone, gentamicin, piperacillin-tazobactam and levofloxacin.
